1. What exactly is rush? And what is the difference between rushing and pledging? If I rush, will I be obligated to pledge?
Rush is the period where anyone with an interest in the sorority can come out to the events we organize in order to get to know the sisters and find out more about the sorority . There is absolutely no obligation involved in rush. You are not expected to pledge if you attend our rush events. That is entirely up to you. Rush is simply arranged for you to see what we're all about. And the best part is - it's free of charge!
2. I'm worried that my academics will suffer as a result of pledging. Will pledging make my grades drop?
No. Pledging will not necessarily make your grades drop. Our sorority places academia in top priority, therefore, you will be given ample time to study. In fact, some of the sisters have even done better in school while pledging.
3. I heard that pledging involves lots of hazing. Will I be hazed or forced to do anything I don't want to do?
Absolutely not. You will not have to do anything you do not want to do. Furthermore, we would not make anyone do anything we would never do. Our pledge process was not created to demean our pledges. Period.
4. What could I possibly gain from being in a Sorority?
Sisterhood, friendship, leadership skills, endless opportunities to branch out and make connections across the nation...and those are only to name a few. The benefits you gain from joining a sorority can be infinite. It all depends on you.
5. Will I be able to be active in other organizations/clubs while I am a pledge?
Certainly. Many of our sisters were active in other organizations/clubs such as CASB and PUSO while they were pledging.
6. I'm not that big on partying. Is the Greek life all about partying and drinking?
Not at all! Greek life is what you make it to be. It's about sisterhood, community service, networking becoming a leader, and much more.
7. I am interested in pledging for your sorority. How do I go about joining the organization?
In order to join alpha Kappa Delta Phi, you must come to our interviews and receive a bid at the end of rush. If you receive and accept your bid, you will officially begin your pledging process.
8. I like alpha Kappa Delta Phi and I want to join but I simply don't have the financial resources to do so. What options are available to me then?
Not to worry. We frequently fundraise to raise more money for the sorority and its growth. Therefore, the sorority will be able to help you set up the appropriate fundraisers necessary to aid you with your financial needs - whenever you need it.
9. Do I have to be Asian to join?
alpha Kappa Delta Phi is an Asian American interest organization, meaning all those who wish to help promote or take interest in Asian American awareness are more than welcome to do so. In short, no, you do not have to be Asian to join.
10. What makes Stony Brook's alpha Kappa Delta Phi different from all of the other sororities on campus?
That is entirely up to you. You may want to join alpha Kappa Delta Phi because we're nationwide and therefore you will be able to go all across the nation while road tripping. Or maybeyou want to join simply because you get along with the active sisters. There could be many different reasons. If you decide that alpha Kappa Delta Phi simply is not the right sorority or organization for you, that's fine as well. However, if you do want to join, don't be shy. Go ahead and sign up for our interviews!
